Noonan Cup Sporting Trial – Cancelled.
Statement from MEC following the cancellation of Sporting Trial 17th October 2020.
It was with great disappointment that the Club received advice last night (Monday 12/10) from Motorsport Ireland (MI), on the instruction of Sport Ireland, that we could not proceed with the running of our Sporting Trial this coming weekend. This is contra to the advise publicised by MI the previous week.
The Club would like to place on record our thanks to all the stakeholders who had committed to the event, the landowners, the officials and the competitors who had entered. All entry fees received will be refunded immediately.
In evaluating our original position on whether to run the event, the Club, while generally supportive of measure taken to reduce the spread of the virus, felt that given the nature of a sporting trial, the relatively small numbers involved and all the Covid-19 protocols being observed, that the event would not have contributed to the spread of the virus. It was on this basis that we were happy for the event to proceed.
The Clubs next event is due to take place on 28th November and we must assume that if the current level of restriction, or higher, prevails at the time that it too will not be allowed to proceed. An announcement will be issued closer to the date.
